Bespoke Workshops and Training Events for Students

Higher Education

theprofessionalcvwriter.com works with Educational Institutions to equip their students and graduates with the skills needed to navigate the shoals of the job market.

We run bespoke Workshops and Training Events in 3 main areas:

CV Writing and how to apply for a Job

New entrants to the job market do not always know how to construct a CV that will get them noticed. Perhaps they have very little work experience and do not know how to set themselves apart. Sometimes they have already achieved a great deal but struggle to put this down on paper in a persuasive way. Often they do not know that CVs must be written to work with the Applicant Management software that many Agencies and Employers use to make selection decisions.

Our highly practical interactive Workshops are bespoke to our client’s requirements and can include:

  • How to write a CV – the “Golden Rules”
  • Researching the company
  • Writing a CV that will get you an interview
  • CV Howlers
  • Practical writing sessions
  • Writing an application letter
  • Conducting a Job Search
  • Linkedin

UCAS Personal Statements The UCAS personal statement is a 47 line (or 4000 character) piece of writing that students must write to tell universities and colleges to which they are applying why they should be offered a place on the course.  Most students find this understandably daunting.

Our interactive and practical tailor-made workshop simplifies and demystifies the process and can include:

  • Researching the College and the course
  • What should I say?
  • How to make a persuasive case
  • Setting yourself apart
  • Example Statements

Interview Technique Interviews can be very challenging but we believe that the approach we teach equips our Learners with lifelong skills that will build their confidence and enable them to fulfil their potential in their career choices. Our Workshops are fun, interactive and practical.

Our bespoke Workshops can include:

  • Interview Howlers
  • How to Research your prospective employer
  • How to anticipate questions and prepare your answers
  • How to conduct yourself on the day
  • Different types of interviews such as Competency Based, Panels
  • Making a persuasive case
  • Dealing with hiccups in your career
  • How to ask Questions that reinforce a good impression
  • Role plays

TESTIMONIALS for our Workshops

"Nick has this academic year worked with 2 groups of students from the Greater Birmingham Professional Services Academy.  I have to say that we have been very pleased with the work he has done with our students.  Nick gave some very helpful hints and tips to the students when completing their CVs and went on to spend a lot of time working with them individually looking at their CVs and personal statements.  Since the workshops the students have told me that they were very grateful for Nick’s advice and guidance and they had all worked hard to produce new CVs.  Nick had very kindly allowed students to send him their amended CVs to look at and he quickly responded to all with further guidance". "We look forward to having Nick return again next academic year with our new students." Jean Pittaway, Assistant Director, Greater Birmingham Professional Academy, Birmingham Metropolitan College
