How to impress an Interviewer AFTER your job interview

Here’s a sweet little tip that will set you apart from 99% of people who go for job interviews.

After your meeting, go home and send the interviewer an email saying “thank you”. That’s it.

Back in the day it used to be letters. And you can still do that.  But I recommend that you drop than an email.  Email address? Is it somewhere in the exchange of messages that set up the interview? Or did you get a business card? Or ask the recruiter for it or indeed look on Linkedin.

Then write something like this: "Dear John I want to say thank you for the courtesy shown to me today by both Sharon and yourself. It was much appreciated and I very much enjoyed meeting you both. I was very excited to learn more about the plans that Bloggs and Co has for the future, and the important part that the role we discussed will play in that future. Having met you, I am now more clear than ever that this is an opportunity which I would love and one in which I could make a very positive contribution to the continued future success of the business. Please feel free to contact me at your convenience should you need clarification on anything that I said. My mobile number is 01234 567 890. Thank you once again for your time and the consideration you are giving to my application. I look forward to hearing from you in the near future. Yours sincerely, John Snow"

Why do this? - It’s good manners and there’s nothing wrong with that. - It indicates to the interviewer that you are a bit smart and that is a good thing too.

But here is the main reason:  it’s different and the fact is that most people do not bother, so yet again you are setting yourself apart from your competition.
